From Our Founders
October 2025
Dear Friends,
There’s something magical about play. Whether it’s a spontaneous laugh during a board game, a burst of energy on the pickleball court, or a shared victory shout from the stands, it awakens something in us. It reminds us that connection isn’t only built through conversation, but through shared joy, movement, and a little friendly competition.
Last Sunday’s Broncos football game was the perfect reminder. After being shut out for three quarters, our team staged a miracle in the Mile High City—scoring 33 points in the final quarter and clinching the win over the New York Giants with a last-second field goal. The energy in the stadium was electric! Strangers hugged! High-fives flew! For those moments, everyone was part of something bigger—something joyful and uniting. That’s the chemistry of play in action: dopamine, adrenaline, and pure delight fueling connection.
We see that same spirit everywhere, from the World Series to a child’s first soccer goal. Play lifts us, bonds us, and heals us. It’s not frivolous—it’s foundational. Research indicates that play reduces stress hormones, fosters empathy, and strengthens relationships. And in our country, where we are so divided and loneliness is at an all-time high, we believe play is one of the most straightforward and most powerful antidotes.
That’s why we’re so excited about our newest program, Game On, Girls!—a joyful invitation to gather, laugh, and reconnect through play. Whether it’s mah jongg, pickleball, or something brand new, these experiences spark the same camaraderie and sense of belonging that Lotus Network has championed from the start. And we want you to help shape what comes next!
If you have a game, activity, or playful idea that you think would bring women together, we’d love to hear it. Please reach out to Lindsey Muessel, our event coordinator, lindsey@lotusnetwork.org, with your suggestions. We’re all ears…
Because at our core, we believe it’s never too late—to play, to connect, and to rediscover the parts of ourselves that light us up inside.
So here’s to the magic of play—and to every woman who’s ready to say, Game On.
With warmth and enthusiasm,
Lisa Cook and Leslie Heins
