Kara Penn

is a scholar, teacher, and strategy advisor who designs organizations and stakeholder partnerships for people and places to thrive. She draws on design thinking, system dynamics, and developmental psychology to help leaders create conditions for collective intelligence, agile performance, and transformative change. Kate is a Senior Lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She is a dynamic and engaging speaker who delivers inspiring keynote addresses to large corporate audiences. She is a frequent author on topics of leadership, innovation, systems change, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and corporate sustainability for publications including the Harvard Business Review, the Sloan Management Review, strategy+business, Chief Executive, The Hill, and The Conversation.

is the owner and principal consultant at Mission Spark, a social impact strategy consulting firm focused on transformative social change. She works on the front lines of practical management to co-design and implement innovative strategy solutions in complex, often resource-constrained settings. Kara has led award-winning community collaboratives; designed, managed, and evaluated multi-year social change initiatives; and guided –as a trusted, results-driven partner– more than 100 government, corporate, nonprofit, philanthropic and community-based organizations on mission-critical work. Several prestigious national programs, including Coro, Watson and Forte, have recognized her leadership and community contributions with fellowships. She is also the co-author of Fail Better: Design Smart Mistakes and Succeed Sooner, published by Harvard Business Review Press.
